Japanese Akoya pearls auction

Japanese Akoya pearls auction has been started.

Quality of this year depend on the place. Some area made very good quality, however some area made poor quality.
So it is not easy to say price of this year.

In general, price of fine quality is strong. Particularly price of 6 to 7mm is strong.

Price of poor quality is weak. Because economy situation is not good in all over the world including Japan.

Many pearl farms are closed the business, so total quantity is down.

Comments

Yes, price of lower quality pearls which the market don't need are down 30%.
However price of fine quality which the market need are same or higher.
If price of fine quality are down 30%, we can do business much easyer.
Prices have falled for Tahitian goods at an even higher rate, including finer quality merchandise.

The South Sea auctions have not faired well in this climate either.

Re: Tahitian pearls, yes, price of crop is down for most of quality, because there are over producing.
However we can not find real peacock color as before.

Re: South Sea pearls, also price is down for most of quality.

Demand of fine quality is always strong and it keeps value.
